CLINTON, S.C. (AP) -Presbyterian wide receiver Larry Carlson Thomas died in a car accident early Friday morning.
Thomas lost control of his 2005 Dodge Neon around 3 a.m. on Interstate 26 in Newberry County, authorities said. The car struck a guardrail, then hit some trees,
Thomas died at the scene, while a passenger was treated at the hospital and released. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
The 20-year-old Thomas was a graduate of Edisto High School. The sophomore physics major played in eight games last season, catching 41 passes for 539 yards and seven touchdowns.
Coach Bobby Bentley canceled Friday’s practice and a scrimmage Saturday.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Larry Thomas,” Bentley said. “Larry was an outstanding and talented individual. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Larry. This is a tremendous loss to the Presbyterian College community.”
