BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -Alabama’s Nick Saban had home-field advantage on his side in winning the inaugural Bobby Bowden national collegiate coach of the year award.
Saban was presented the award by the Over the Mountain Touchdown Club of Birmingham during a ceremony Sunday night. Bowden, a Birmingham native who recently retired after a 34-year coaching career at Florida State, also was in attendance.
Saban says it’s a special award, “especially with coach Bowden’s name on it.”
Saban led the Crimson Tide to a national championship, setting a school record with 14 victories. Also, running back Mark Ingram became the program’s first Heisman Trophy winner.
