TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -National champion Alabama opened spring practice looking to fill key holes on defense.
The Crimson Tide worked out for about two hours on Friday before beginning spring break with practice set to resume March 22. Coach Nick Saban says the conditioning is pretty good after the offseason conditioning program.
He says safety Robby Green was excused from practice for personal reasons but will be with the team when it returns from spring break.
The Tide is experimenting with receivers Kendall Kelly and Brandon Gibson at defensive back. Jalston Fowler, a running back signee, is getting a look at linebacker.
Center William Vlachos is not expected to get any contact work after foot surgery.
