CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) - Clemson used a late signing day rush to bolster what had been a fading group of recruits Wednesday.
The Tigers signed highly regarded defensive backs Mackensie Alexander and Adrian Baker, and stellar offensive lineman Tyrone Crowder Jr. as part of its 23-man class, a collection of prospects that lost lots of star power over the past several months.
The country's top prospect in defensive end Robert Nkemdiche committed to Clemson last summer before signing to play at Ole Miss. One of the nation's top receivers in Demarcus Robinson pledged to Clemson before enrolling at Florida last month. And highly recruited players like defensive linemen Elijah Daniel and Montravius Adams both had Clemson in their sights before eventually signing with Auburn.
Alexander was ranked the fourth best player overall by ESPN.
