SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -Kalen DeBoer, who coached Sioux Falls to three NAIA championships in four years, is leaving the school to become offensive coordinator at Southern Illinois.
DeBoer announced the move Friday, two months after the Cougars won their second straight title. They were 67-3 in DeBoer’s five seasons as coach.
The American Football Coaches Association last year named DeBoer as NAIA coach of the year for the third time in the past four seasons. The Baptist-affiliated, 1,600-student South Dakota school is moving up to Division II.
Southern Illinois last year advanced to the quarterfinals of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, closing the season at 11-2.
