SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -Ball control offense will no longer be part of Notre Dame’s philosophy under new coach Brian Kelly.
Former coach Charlie Weis frequently talked about the need to play complementary football. That meant depending on the offense to keep the ball away from opponents with potent offenses to take some pressure off the Irish defense.
New offensive coordinator Charley Molnar says the Irish won’t be worried about scoring too quickly.
At Cincinnati last season under Kelly, the Bearcats were last in the nation in time of possession. They were fourth in scoring and finished 12-1.
Kelly says his spread offense isn’t about anything except for scoring points. He says he wants the offense to have an aggressive mindset.
