LOS ANGELES (AP) -Chuck Bullough was promoted to UCLA’s defensive coordinator.
“Chuck is an outstanding coach and is certainly deserving of the opportunity to lead our defense,” Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel said in a statement Monday. “He is very detail-oriented when it comes to teaching fundamentals and he has earned the respect of our players for the job he has done while here at UCLA.”
The Bruins’ former linebackers coach succeeds DeWayne Walker, hired as head coach at New Mexico State last month.
Before coming to UCLA, Bullough was a member of the Chicago Bears’ coaching staff from 1999-2003, worked as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Lake Forest College in 2004, and was linebackers coach at Western Michigan in 2005.
The Bruins also hired former UCLA and Pittsburgh Steelers star Carnell Lake to coach the team’s cornerbacks. The 41-year-old Lake was a three-year starter for the Bruins before beginning his 12-year NFL career – the first 10 with the Steelers.
