IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – The sentencing for one of two former University of Iowa football players convicted of assault related to a 2007 sexual encounter with a female athlete has been put off.
Abe Satterfield of Erie, Pa., was scheduled to be sentenced Friday but neither he nor his attorney showed up in court in Iowa City.
Prosecutor Anne Lahey says they may have thought the judge would just file the sentence in court documents since a plea deal had been reached. She says that could happen later Friday or a new sentencing hearing could be set.
Lahey says prosecutors will not recommend jail time under a plea agreement with Satterfield even though she said he wasn’t fully candid in his testimony at teammate Cedric Everson’s trial.
