LOS ANGELES (AP) -Brian Schneider, the Oakland Raiders’ special teams coordinator the past two seasons, has been hired to handle the same job at Southern California.
“We’ve worked for years to create the opportunity to have a special teams coordinator,” USC coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday. “We’re delighted that the right guy came along for the spot in Brian Schneider. He’s an excellent, experienced coach whose results are evident at every place he has worked.”
The 37-year-old Schneider replaces Dave Watson on the USC coaching staff. Watson is pursuing other coaching opportunities.
Schneider, a three-year starter at linebacker for Colorado State in the early 1990s, has 15 years of experience coaching special teams. He spent three years at UCLA, another at Iowa State, and moved briefly to the Air Force Academy in early 2007 before being hired by the Raiders.
