BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Gary Crowton says he’s resigning as LSU’s offensive coordinator to take a similar job at Maryland where he will be reunited with new Terrapins coach Randy Edsall.
Crowton has been with LSU four seasons, starting in 2007, when the Tigers won a national title. LSU coach Les Miles announced Crowton’s resignation Thursday.
Edsall was hired as Maryland’s coach this month. He and Crowton worked together at Boston College.
LSU has gone 40-13 during Crowton’s time with the Tigers but ranked last in the Southeastern Conference in passing in 2010.
Crowton says it’s a tough time to leave LSU because he’s certain the team will contend for a national title next year.
