ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) – Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon says the university community has been divided about the football program. He hopes that will change when he hires Rich Rodriguez’s successor.
Brandon fired Rodriguez on Wednesday after three seasons that were filled with losing and turmoil.
The last time the Wolverines had an opening, many former players, fans and school officials seemed to want LSU’s Les Miles to replace retiring coach Lloyd Carr.
When ex-AD Bill Martin didn’t hire a Michigan man – luring Rodriguez away from West Virginia – he and the new coach didn’t get universal support.
Michigan radio analyst and former Wolverines lineman Jim Brandstatter says Rodriguez had “three strikes” against him before he stepped on campus.
