NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) -Texas’ Colt McCoy and Alabama’s Greg McElroy enter the BCS national championship game with different roles and the same goal.
McCoy is the best hope for the second-ranked Longhorns to beat the top-ranked Crimson Tide and take a national title back to Austin.
McElroy’s job is to try and avoid critical mistakes that would lose the Thursday night’s game at the Rose Bowl for the Crimson Tide.
Both quarterbacks have guided their teams to perfect records, McCoy with an All-American performance and McElroy by being more efficient than spectacular.
McCoy is the winningest quarterback in college football history. McElroy has never lost a game he has started in college or high school.
