JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -West Virginia quarterback Jarrett Brown has left the Gator Bowl against Florida State with an ankle injury, and the Mountaineers do not expect him to return.
Brown apparently was shaken up after being sacked by Florida State’s Dekoda Watson midway through the second quarter. He completed 1 of 4 passes for 15 yards and an interception, but rushed six times for 63 yards, including a touchdown on the 18th-ranked Mountaineers’ opening drive.
West Virginia announced the injury during halftime. Brown was replaced by Geno Smith, who appeared in four games for the Mountaineers during the regular season.
