Marshall Thundering Herd Game Notes
Marshall redshirt junior RB Brenden Knox announced on Monday that he will forego his senior season and enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Knox (6’0/220) will fall short of hitting the 1,000-yard mark for a second straight season, as he has also decided to sit out Marshall’s Camellia Bowl matchup with Buffalo. The redshirt junior appeared in nine games for the Thundering Herd this season, rushing for 887 yards and nine touchdowns on 185 carries while also catching seven passes for 86 yards and another score. The 2019 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, Knox fell 13 yards short of 1,400 on the ground while scoring 11 touchdowns last season. Knox projects to be a Day 3 selection in this spring’s draft, with the lack of production as a pass-catcher limiting his ceiling.
Buffalo Bulls Game Notes
Buffalo junior RB Jaret Patterson (undisclosed) is expected to be available for the Bulls’ Camellia Bowl matchup with Marshall, according to HC Lance Leipold. Patterson (5’9/195) has been taking part in practice this week, but he’s been working off to the side according to Rachel Lenzi of the Buffalo News. “We expect him to be ready and able to go,” Leipold said of his star running back on Tuesday. Patterson was held in check by Ball State during last Friday’s MAC Championship Game, which the Cardinals won by a 38-28 final score. With Marshall in the midst of a losing streak, which included a surprising shutout at the hands of Rice, Patterson could be in line for a big day if he plays in Friday’s season finale. If he doesn’t play, expect to see plenty of Kevin Marks.
Marshall vs. Buffalo Betting Prediction
The Bulls have covered 11 of their last 14 games overall, are 7-2 against the number in their last nine games as a favorite and are 6-2 at the betting window in their last eight games against Conference USA opponents. They’re also 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games when facing an opponent with a winning record. On the other side, the Thundering Herd have lost five straight at the betting window in their last five games coming off a loss and have failed to cover in six of their last seven games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous contest.
