HONOLULU, HI (The Spread) – The 2012 Hawaii Bowl is set to take place Monday night at 8PM ET on ESPN, featuring Fresno State and SMU from Aloha Stadium.

Fresno State is 9-3 on the season and an impressive 11-1 against the spread. SMU is 6-6 overall and 7-5 against the spread. SMU has hit the over in 6 of 11 lined games while Fresno State has hit the under in 6 of 11 lined games. Fresno State has won five straight against SMU, but the Mustangs have covered the spread in four of their last six against the Bulldogs.

Fresno State ended the season on a five-game winning streak to earn a share of the Mountain West Conference title. The Bulldogs won all five games by at least 16 points. Fresno has one of the top offenses in the country, as they average 40.3 points per game, while the defense allows just 22.3 points per game. The offense is led by a passing attack that averaged 322.6 yards per game. Derek Carr has thrown for 3,742 yards and 36 touchdowns on the season to lead the team.

SMU is coming off a 35-27 win over Tulsa to end the regular season. The Mustangs finished 5-3 in Conference USA play, but had four of their six losses come by at least 20 points. SMU averaged just 29.5 points per game this season while the defense held opponents to only 27 points per game. The SMU offense has a balanced attack with quarterback Garrett Gilbert throwing for 2,720 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season and running back Zach Line rushing for 1,207 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In terms of Injuries, Fresno State receiver Josh Harper is expected to miss the game with a groin injury while center Lars Bramer has been suspended for the contest. SMU linebacker Cameron Rogers is questionable with a leg injury.
