Championship Weekend Predictions
(TheSpread) – It’s championship weekend in college football and we have predictions on all of the championship games this weekend! Read on to check out our College Football Week 14 Picks & Predictions.
According to Week 14 college football odds and oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Auburn is a 5.5-point favorite over South Carolina this Saturday, while Nebraska is a 4.5-point underdog against Oklahoma and Virginia Tech is –3.5 versus Florida State.
SEC Championship: Auburn vs. South Carolina
We’re done picking against Auburn. It seems like we’re constantly going against them, waiting for them to fall and yet, here they are as the top ranked team in the nation. Led by Stephen Garcia, the Gamecocks have enough weapons to hang with Auburn for three quarters. But it’s what the Tigers have been able to do in that fourth quarter that has been most impressive. Alabama had them on the ropes 24-0 last week and yet Cam Newton and Co. chipped away and eventually won. Georgia hung with Auburn for two and a half quarters before the Tigers put them away, too. The same thing happened with Arkansas and South Carolina earlier this year, when the Gamecocks held a 20-7 second quarter lead. It’s Auburn’s year and with Newton’s NCAA investigation woes behind him, the Tigers should roll. Our pick is Auburn –5.5.
Big 12 Championship: Nebraska vs. Oklahoma
Last year everyone thought Colt McCoy and the Longhorns would roll Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship. Instead, the Huskers hung with Texas for four quarters and nearly pulled off a great upset. Fast forward to this year, where there are still question marks surrounding Nebraska’s offense and gone is Ndamukong Suh from that defensive line. With the way that Landry Jones and DeMarco Murray lit up the scoreboard against Oklahoma State last Saturday, one would think that they’ll do it again in Austin this week. But we think the Huskers’ defense will come to play and if Bo Pelini can keep himself and his squad from drawing a penalty every other play, we think they’ll cover. Our pick is Nebraska +4.5.
ACC Championship: Virginia Tech vs. Florida State
Can anyone stop Tyrod Taylor and the Hokies? They’ve won 10 in a row and have made it look easy too, outside of a near-stumble against Georgia Tech about a month ago. The Seminoles are just 1-4 against the spread in their five conference games this year, while the Holies are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 games overall. Their losses to Boise State and James Madison are a distant memory and VA Tech looks to be in complete control. Christian Ponder is a talented player and he’ll make some big plays in this one. But the Hokies have only allowed six touchdowns in the fourth quarter this season and have been great at putting the clamps down on opponents in crunch time. With the spread set low, we like the Hokies to win the ACC and cover. Our pick is Virginia Tech –3.5.
