The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Hawkeyes are 1.5-point road favorites versus the Cornhuskers while the total currently sits at 58 points. Iowa had opened as a 2.5-point favorite before the spread was bet down.
The Records
Iowa is a perfect 11-0 this season but its just 5-5 against the spread in its last 10 games. Nebraska, meanwhile, is 5-6 straight up but has covered the number in six of its last 10 games.
The Pick
Nebraska quarterback Tommy Armstrong ranks 11th in the country in terms of pass plays of 20-plus yards. This is how Armstrong has gotten away with completing just 51.9% of his passes. The Cornhuskers aren’t like the Hawkeyes in that they move methodically down the field. Instead, they pick up yards in chunks and if they can do so again today, they could spring the upset. While Nebraska has been maddeningly inconsistent this season (see the losses to Illinois and Purdue), the Huskers also have a habit of playing up to their competition (see covers against Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan State). Iowa is the on the doorstep of playing in the college football postseason this season but this is a dangerous trip to Lincoln. Perhaps Nebraska has one more upset in its bag of tricks.
