Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech senior QB TaQuon Marshall threw for 37 yards on 1-for-8 passing and ran for 107 yards and a score in a 30-27 overtime victory over Virginia on Saturday. Marshall looked awful throwing the football all game, but the game tied at 24-24 late in the fourth, he hit Brad Stewart for a 37-yard completion that set up what looked to be the game-winning field goal. It turns out the game-winner would come in overtime, but Marshall once again was impressive running the option, and gives the red-hot Yellow Jackets their seventh win of the season. Things will be much tougher next week against rival Georgia next Saturday.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia freshman QB Justin Fields completed 5-of-8 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on seven carries in Saturday’s 66-27 win over UMass. Fields showed off his ability to create explosive plays as a passer and runner in this one. The freshman quarterback threw a strike while getting hit for his first passing touchdown before launching a dime down the opposite sideline for a 57-yard score. Fields also had a nice spin move on a read-option carry for a short rushing touchdown to round out his huge game. Georgia will have both Justin Fields and Jake Fromm next week against Georgia Tech before playing Alabama on December 1st.
Betting Trends
Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games versus SEC opponents.
Georgia
The Bulldogs are 9-2 against the number in their last 11 games when facing an opponent that owns a winning record.
Prediction
The Yellow Jackets are 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven trips to Athens and the road team has covered the spread in 17 of the last 22 meetings between these two teams with one push. With Alabama in the SEC title game on deck, I don’t see how UGA gets fully up for this one. Sure Tech is a rival, but how much do the Dawgs care about thumping a non-conference foe with everything on the line next week? I’m taking the points.
