California at Stanford

No. 14 Stanford looks to continue its winning ways on Saturday when the Cardinal faces California at 7:30PM ET from Stanford Stadium.

Bet California at Stanford
Stanford is 7-3 on the year and 7-3 against the spread. The Cardinal have not lost at home and covered the spread in all games at Stanford Stadium this year. Trends show that Cal has won six of the last seven meetings in this series.

The Bears are 7-3 this year and 5-5 against the spread. Cal has won four of its last five games but only covered the spread in three of its last four.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Stanford 7-point home favorites over California on Saturday night. The over/under total for this game has been established at 65.

Stanford has the second best rushing attack in the Pac-10 behind the legs of Toby Gerhart. Gerhart has rushed for 1,395 yards this season with 19 touchdowns. California has one of the top rushing defenses in the conference, giving up just 104.1 yards per-game. This game may come down to the arm of Andrew Luck, who has thrown for 2,220 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Cardinal.

California has had a strong offense, but the loss of Jahvid Best at running back to a concussion could great affect the Bears. Best had 867 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in the first nine games, but Shane Vereen filled in nicely last week in the Bears win over Arizona. Stanford is allowing 24.2 points per-game, but the Cardinal have struggled more against the pass than the run. Cal will need Kevin Riley to play well, as Riley has thrown for 2,186 yards and 15 touchdowns.

This pick comes down to momentum and talent. Stanford has been rolling and is still in the running to tie for the Pac-10 title while California is dealing with an injury to its best player. Riley and Luck are comparable at quarterback, but Gerhart is clearly the best player on either team. Gerhart should find success against Cal, and with the trends showing that the Cardinal are unbeaten at home against the spread, we suggest a pick of Stanford with the under.
