DEKALB, IL (The Spread) – The week of college football gets started on Wednesday night when Northern Illinois hosts Toledo at 9PM ET on ESPN2.

Northern Illinois is 9-1 on the season, 6-0 in the MAC and 5-1 at home. Toledo is 8-2 on the year, 5-1 in the MAC and 4-1 on the road. The Huskies are an impressive 8-1-1 against the spread while the Rockets are 6-4 ATS. Northern Illinois has won and covered in three of the last four meetings with Toledo.

Trends show that the home team has covered in four of the last five games in this series and the underdog is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 games of this series. Toledo is also 9-4-1 ATS in its last 14 meetings with Northern Illinois.

Northern Illinois is coming off a 63-0 thrashing of UMass on Nov. 3. The Huskies have won nine straight since an 18-17 loss to Iowa in the season opener. NIU is ninth in the nation in scoring right now, averaging 40.6 points per game. The defense is pretty sound too, as it ranks 15th nationally, allowing just 17.9 points per game. The Huskies are led by their quarterback, Jordan Lynch, who has thrown for 2,175 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 1,342 yards and 16 scores.

Toledo is coming off a 34-27 loss at home to Ball State back on Nov. 6. The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Rockets. Both of their losses this season have come by just 7 points. On the year, Toledo is scoring 33.6 points per game while the defense is allowing 27.4 points per contest. Toledo is being led by running back David Fluellen, who has rushed for 1,381 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

In terms of Injuries, Northern Illinois receiver Perez Ashford is questionable with an ankle injury while cornerback Rashaan Melvin is questionable with a knee injury. Toledo kicker Sean Ianno will be out for this game with an undisclosed injury.
