Clemson a defensive beast
Clemson is coming off a 77-16 win at home over Louisville last week to improve to 9-0 on the season and 6-0 in the ACC. The Tigers are also 5-4 against the spread and 5-4 with the over. Clemson has hit the over in three of its last four games.
The Tigers are dominant on both sides of the ball, as the defense is allowing only 13.3 points and 269.2 yards per game. On offense, Clemson is putting up 47.8 points and 538 yards per game. Travis Etienne has rushed for 998 yards and 15 touchdowns to lead the offense while quarterback Trevor Lawrence has thrown for 1,549 yards and 18 touchdowns with three interceptions. Tee Higgins is his leading receiver with 35 catches for 514 yards and seven touchdowns.
Boston College heating up
Boston College has won three straight games coming into this week, including a 31-21 win at Virginia Tech last weekend. The Eagles are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the ACC. BC is 7-2 against the spread and 5-4 with the over. BC has hit the under in two straight and three of its last four games.
Like Clemson, BC has a pretty respectable defense. The Eagles are giving up 24.1 points and 365.9 yards per contest. When it comes to offense, Boston College is putting up 37.2 points and 440.1 yards per contest. A.J. Dillon is leading the offense with 897 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while Anthony Brown has thrown for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns. Dillon has been battling an ankle injury, but he is expected to play on Saturday.
College Football Betting Trends
Clemson
Clemson is 6-1-1 with the over in its last eight games in November and 6-2 with the over in its last eight games on fieldturf.
Boston College
Boston College is 5-1 with the over in its last six home games, but 42-20-3 with the under in its last 65 conference games.
Prediction:
This is a high total for two teams with such strong defenses. While I think BC will have trouble slowing down the Clemson offense entirely, I do think the Eagles will struggle to score on the Clemson defense. The Tigers have allowed 16 or less over their last four games, facing some offenses that seem capable of more than BC. I don’t see the Eagles doing much to help the total while Clemson isn’t likely to put up 45 or more on its own either.
College Football Prediction: Clemson/Boston College Under 57.5
