Minnesota looking impressive
The Minnesota football team kept its unbeaten season going last weekend with a 42-7 win at Rutgers. The Golden Gophers are 7-0 on the season, 4-0 in the Big Ten, 4-2-1 against the spread and 4-3 with the over.
The Gophers are rolling on defense right now. They are giving up just 21.4 points and 294.3 yards per game this season. Antoine Winfield Jr. is leading the defense with 28 tackles and four interceptions. Offensively, Minnesota is putting up 36.4 points and 419.7 yards per contest. Rodney Smith is leading the offense with 786 rushing yards and six touchdowns while Tanner Morgan has thrown for 1,623 yards and 16 touchdowns. Rashod Bateman is the team’s leading receiver with 28 catches for 605 yards and five scores.
Maryland struggling in Big Ten
The Maryland football team is coming off a 34-28 loss at home to Indiana for its fourth loss in five games. The Terrapins are 3-4 on the season, 1-3 in the Big Ten, 4-3 against the spread and 4-3 with the over.
After starting the season looking really strong, Maryland is averaging just 35.6 points and 431 yards per game on the year. Defensively, the Terps are allowing 25.7 points and 414.4 yards per contest. Josh Jackson has thrown for 968 yards and 10 touchdowns to lead the offense while dealing with some injuries. Javon Leake is the team’s leading rusher with 499 yards and seven touchdowns, while Dontay Demus Jr. is the leading receiver with 28 catches for 466 yards and four scores.
College Football Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Gophers have covered the spread in five straight conference games and in four straight games in October.
Maryland
The Terrapins are just 1-6 against the spread in their last 7 road games and 7-16 ATS in their last 23 games against a winning team.
Prediction:
Maryland has won and covered the spread in the last two against Minnesota. I wouldn’t expect a win for the Terps today, but one has to wonder when the Gophers are going to look more like we expect. They have been able to beat up on the bottom of the conference thus far, but with games against Penn State and Iowa on the horizon, will the Gophers overlook Maryland today? There’s been no sign of overlooking yet, and Minnesota gets a bye next week before meeting Penn State. I think that should allow them to stay focused and play well today. The Minnesota defense is solid and can lock up this Maryland offense while using its ground attack on offense to power past the Maryland defense.
