Irish coming off bye
Notre Dame got the week off and was last in action two weeks ago in a 30-27 win at home over USC. The Fighting Irish are now 5-1 on the season, 4-2 against the spread and 4-2 with the under.
The Irish have been pretty steady on both sides of the ball. Notre Dame is putting up 39.2 points and 454 yards per game on offense this year, while the defense is giving up 16.8 points and 348 yards per contest. Ian Book has thrown for 1,419 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also rushing for 188 yards and three scores to lead the offense. Tony Jones Jr. is the leading rusher with 557 yards and four scores while Chase Claypool has 27 catches for 394 yards and four scores.
Wolverines fall again
Michigan is coming off a hard-fought loss at Penn State last weekend, 28-21. The Wolverines dropped a game-tying touchdown late in the contest. Michigan is now 5-2 on the season, 3-4 against the spread and 5-2 with the over.
The Wolverines have been led by a respectable defense that is allowing just 19 points and 285 yards per game. Offensively, Michigan is putting up 29 points and 392.1 yards per contest. Shea Patterson has thrown for 1,522 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the offense while Zach Charbonnet has 457 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Ronnie Bell is the leading receiver with 24 catches for 432 yards. Jordan Glasgow has been leading the defense with 51 tackles and four sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Notre Dame
The Irish have hit the under in four straight road games and in six of their last seven following a win.
Michigan
The Wolverines have hit the over in seven of their last eight games following a loss and in 11 of their last 15 home games.
Prediction:
These two have hit the under in their last two meetings and four of their last six encounters. Michigan’s offense may have good average numbers, but the Wolverines have struggled with physical defensive fronts. ND has struggled with the run at times, but I think the Irish have the bodies to stop the Michigan run game. Michigan’s defense also has struggled with good teams, giving up big chunk plays to the likes of Penn State and Wisconsin. Still, both of their losses saw under 50 points scored. If Michigan has a chance, I think it will have to be a low-scoring game. I feel like the under is the play, as I expect Michigan’s defense to step up in a home night game.
