Freeze’s Rebels eye upset win at Tiger Stadium
LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron and Ole Miss’ Hugh Freeze enjoy a warm, longstanding relationship. That’ll surely go by the wayside tonight in Baton Rouge.
The former colleagues square off at 9 p.m. ET in an SEC tilt teeming with West Division ramifications. Online sports book BetDSI opened the Tigers as 4-point favorites over the Rebels. The over/under is 60.5.
From 2005-07, Orgeron oversaw operations in Oxford and granted Freeze his first on-field college coaching gig. But the Bayou Bengals’ current leader would like nothing better than to hand it to his old school this evening. LSU enters the weekend riding a wave of momentum, having obliterated Missouri and Southern Mississippi in back-to-back tilts. The positive vibes extend to the health department, too, as Leonard Fournette (ankle) should return from a two-game absence.
Freeze obviously can’t be thrilled about preparing for both Fournette and impact understudy Derrius Guice in the backfield, particularly given Ole Miss’ recent woes. The program just succumbed to Arkansas, 34-30, falling to 1-3 vs. ranked squads. Chad Kelly lost a fumble on the Rebels’ final drive, putting them in a very difficult spot with only six contests remaining on the schedule.

Will the quarterback’s steely resolve surface once again in Louisiana, though? Kelly’s thrown for at least one touchdown in 19 consecutive affairs. Expect plenty of aerial opportunities here, as well, with the two rivals sure to trade scores throughout the second half.
