The Cougars successfully rebounded with a 38-31 win over Tulsa one week after losing their first game of the season, a 46-40 defeat at Navy. The win over the Golden Hurricane gave Houston six wins on the year but the Cougars have failed to cover as double-digit favorites in back-to-back weeks. Houston is now 4-3 against the spread in 2016.
The Mustangs are also coming off a game against Tulsa two weeks ago, but they lost 43-40 as a 15-point road underdog. That loss was SMU’s third straight and now the Mustangs are 2-4 on the year and 4-2 against the spread. Quarterback Ben Hicks completed 29-of-52 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to Tulsa while Braeden West rushed 22 times for 124 yards and a touchdown.
