Bet USC at Notre Dame
A win on Saturday for Weis could solidify his job as head coach, where a loss may put his future in jeopardy. The Irish are trying to end a seven-game losing streak to USC and Weis brings in a team with a 4-1 record that has won three games by seven points or less. The Irish have failed to cover the spread in their last four games, but Saturday marks the first time this season that they are underdogs. Jimmy Clausen has thrown for 1,544 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season to lead Notre Dame. Golden Tate has caught 33 passes for 602 yards and four scores, making up for the loss of Michael Floyd, who had five touchdown catches in three games before having his season ended with a broken collarbone. Armando Allen has rushed for 365 yards and three touchdowns on the year as well. On defense, the Irish are allowing 23 points and 403 yards per-game.
USC is 4-1 on the year and is 2-0 since losing to Washington 16-13 on Sept. 19. The Trojans have covered the spread in just two games this year, but have been favored by double digits in three of their five games in 2009. Freshman Matt Barkley has not lost as a starter, throwing for 958 yards and three touchdowns on the season. Joe McKnight has rushed for 473 yards and six touchdowns to lead the running attack, which is without Stafon Johnson, who is still recovering from a weightlifting injury where he dropped over 200 pounds on his neck. Johnson had five touchdowns on the year and will be out for at leas the remainder of 2009. Damian Williams has caught 24 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown to lead the USC receiving corp, which could give Notre Dame trouble on Saturday. The Trojans are allowing just 8.6 points and 236 yards per-game, both of which rank among the best in the country.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made USC 10-point road favorites over Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 48.5.
