Houston in contention
No. 23 Houston had high hopes for a run to the BCS and a Conference USA title this year, but both of those may be out of the picture for the Cougars.
A loss to UTEP in the conference opener have taken Houston’s destiny out of its hands, but the Cougars hope to continue to climb up in the ranking Saturday when they travel to Tulane to face the Green Wave at 3:30PM ET from the Louisiana Superdome.

A 3-0 start with a win over Oklahoma State gave the Cougars national aspirations, but the 58-41 loss to UTEP put this season in question. Now, after a 31-24 win over Mississippi State last week, Houston is back on track. The Cougars are 3-1 against the spread on the year thanks to their explosive offense, which leads the nation in yards per-game at 569.2. Houston is scoring over 40 points per-game as quarterback Case Keenum has thrown for 2,130 yards and 17 touchdowns. James Cleveland, Tryon Carrier, and Charles Sims each have over 400 yards receiving this season while Bryce Beall has run for 373 yards and three scores. Defensively, Houston is allowing 30.4 points and 450.4 yards per-game, including a total of 1,149 yards rushing through give games.
Tulane is 2-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. The Green Wave are also 2-3 against the spread. Tulane has a strong receiver in Jeremy Williams, who has caught 34 passes for 578 yards. Quarterback Joe Kemp has thrown for 883 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions while Andre Anderson has rushed for 446 yards and five scores. Tulane is only averaging 17 points and 329 yards per-game on offense and on defense the Green Wave are giving up 34 points and 391 yards per-outing.
