According to the latest oddsmakers, Minnesota is the clear favorite on the road, as the Golden Gophers are getting odds of -28.5 points at Rutgers. The over/under total is listed at 47.5 points. The public betting currently has 77 percent going on Minnesota as the road favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Gophers dominate Nebraska
Minnesota has put on a few dominant performances at home in recent weeks, beating Illinois 40-17 and Nebraska 34-7. The Gophers are now 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in the Big Ten, 3-2-1 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under total.
The Golden Gophers are led by a strong defense that is giving up just 23.8 points and 311.8 yards per game. Offensively, Minnesota is putting up 35.5 points and 415.8 yards per outing. Rodney Smith is leading the offense with 675 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Tanner Morgan has 1,378 passing yards and 14 touchdowns. Rashod Bateman is the team’s leading receiver with 24 catches for 533 yards and four touchdowns.
Knights shutout again
Rutgers suffered its third shutout loss on the road this year when the Knights were beaten 35-0 by Indiana last weekend. Rutgers is 1-5 on the season, 0-4 in the Big Ten, 1-5 against the spread and 4-2 with the under.
The Knights have one of the nation’s worse offenses, averaging just 11.8 points and 267 yards per game this season. Defensively, Rutgers is giving up 36 points and 449.3 yards per game. Coach Chris Ash was already fired after the 1-4 start. Johnny Langan is currently the starting QB and he has 172 passing yards with two interceptions this year. Isaih Pacheco leads the offense with 384 yards and four touchdowns while Bo Melton is the leading receiver with 16 catches for 255 yards and a score.
College Football Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Gophers are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four road games and they have covered in four straight Big Ten games as well.
Rutgers
The Knights have failed to cover in four straight conference games and they are 1-4 ATS in their last five games in October.
Prediction:
These two have just one Big Ten meeting, a 34-32 win for Minnesota at home back in 2016. The Gophers are starting to get some respect and that could be dangerous for them, but I feel like they can’t help but cover this spread against Rutgers. The Knights are struggling a great deal and have no playmakers on offense. That will be a problem against the Minnesota defense. The Gophers aren’t overwhelming on offense, but they should eat up this awful Rutgers defense. I think the Gophers will continue their hot streak and cover this spread with ease on the road.
College Football Week 8 Prediction: Minnesota -28.5
