Jags in a funk
South Alabama hasn’t been able to get on track, dropping four straight following a 20-17 OT loss to Georgia Southern two weeks ago. The Jaguars are 1-5 on the season, 0-2 in the Sun Belt, 3-3 against the spread and 5-1 with the under.
The Jaguars haven’t been able to come up with much in terms of offense this year, averaging just 16.8 points and 319 yards per game. The defense hasn’t been too great either, allowing 29.3 points and 400.5 yards per contest. Tra Minter has been the offensive leader with 477 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Cephus Johnson has rushed for 199 yards and four scores as well as passing for 708 yards and five touchdowns. Kawaan Baker has caught 16 passes for 353 yards and three touchdowns to lead the receivers.
Trojans on a skid
Troy is coming off back-to-back losses entering this game, including a 42-10 loss at Missouri two weeks ago. The Trojans are 2-3 on the season, 0-1 in the Sun Belt, 1-4 against the spread and 3-2 with the over.
The Trojans are competitive on offense, averaging 34.6 points and 452.6 yards per game. Their passing attack is averaging over 300 yards per game. Defensively, Troy is giving up 32 points and 402.4 yards per game. The run defense is giving up just 93.8 yards per game though, which ranks 14th nationally. Kaleb Barker has thrown or 1,476 yards and 14 touchdowns to lead the offense, but he is questionable to play on Wednesday due to a leg injury. DK Billingsley is the leading rusher with 350 rushing yards and four touchdowns while Kaylon Geiger is the leading receiver with 30 catches for 410 yards and two scores.
College Football Betting Trends
South Alabama
The Jaguars have hit the under in six of their last seven games on turf and in four of their last five road games.
Troy
The Trojans have hit the over in four straight home games and in four of their last five games after a bye week.
Prediction:
These two are 3-1-1 with the under in their last five meetings. Even the over they hit last year had just 55 points. South Alabama struggles as in on offense, but relies on a run game that could struggle against Troy’s run defense. The Trojans are strong up front. Troy has some pretty solid offensive numbers, but the Trojans aren’t likely to have Barker at 100 percent, if he plays at all. I don’t see them doing enough to carry the over and South Alabama isn’t going to do much to help.
