Conference Battle
No. 20
Mississippi had its national title hopes spoiled two weeks ago, and Saturday, the Rebels will look to return to the favor to No. 3
Alabama, when they host the Crimson Tide at 3:30PM ET from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Bet Alabama at Mississippi
The Rebels were a top 5 program two weeks ago when they traveled to
South Carolina, but a 16-10 loss to the Gamecocks took Ole Miss out of the BCS title picture. Ole Miss still can win the SEC this season though, but needs a win over
Alabama today to make that happen.
Mississippi is playing at home for just the second time this season, with the last meeting a 52-6 win over
Southeastern Louisiana. The last two home meetings with
Alabama have both been 3-point losses for the Rebels. Jevan Snead came into the season with some Heisman hype as Ole Miss’ quarterback, but Snead has thrown for just 728 yards and nine touchdowns with five interceptions through four games. Brandon Bolden has led the Rebels on the ground with 297 yards while Shay Hodge has 17 receptions for 269 yards and three touchdowns. The Rebels rank in the bottom half of the SEC in most offensive categories, except for average points per-game. On defense, the Rebels are second in the SEC for fewest points allowed.
When it comes to defense,
Alabama may have the best in the country. The Tide are allowing just 222 yards per-game, which is second in the nation. The Tide have the seventh best rush defense in the country, allowing just 322 yards on the ground. What makes those numbers even more impressive is that the Tide have face talented offenses like Virginia Tech,
Arkansas, and Florida International.
Alabama has improved offensively as well, as Greg McElroy has been a competent quarterback, throwing for 1,086 yards and nine touchdowns with just one interception. On the ground, the Tide are led by Mark Ingram, who has 487 yards and six touchdowns, while Trent Richardson has 306 yards and four scores.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have made
Alabama 5-point road favorites over
Mississippi on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 45.
