Arizona struggling to get on track
The Wildcats are coming off a 24-20 loss at home to USC last week to fall to 2-3 on the season. They are also 1-1 in the Pac-12, 2-3 against the spread and 4-1 with the under. As a program, Arizona is just 3-7 against the spread in its last 10 games.
Arizona is moving the ball well, averaging 31.6 points and 481.4 yards per game. Khalil Tate has thrown for 1,271 yards and 10 touchdowns this season and also has three interceptions. J.J. Taylor is the leading rusher with 527 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, the Wildcats are struggling, giving up 28.4 points and 418.8 yards per game. Their run defense is allowing 204.6 yards per game.
Cal suffers first loss
The Golden Bears are coming off a 42-24 loss at home to Oregon to fall to 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in the Pac-12. The Bears are 1-2-1 against the spread thus far and 2-2 with the over/under total.
Cal is putting up 28.5 points and 393.5 yards per game on offense this season. The Bears have been split on their starting QB, but Chase Garbers remains the starter. He has thrown for 493 yards and six touchdowns this year with four interceptions. Brandon McIlwain has thrown for 230 yards and two scores while also leading the team in rushing with 252 yards. Defensively, Cal is giving up 25 points and 348 yards per contest.
College Football Betting Trends
Arizona
The Wildcats are 6-13 against the spread in their last 19 conference games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in October.
Cal
Cal has covered the spread in four straight against teams with losing records and in five of its last seven conference games.
Prediction:
These two do have a similar opponent in BYU. The Cougars beat Arizona in Tucson, but lost at home to Cal. Still, I feel Arizona has been improving week-to-week and will continue to do so this week. If the Wildcats can get moving on offense, I don’t think Cal will be able to keep pace. The Bears are still having questions at quarterback while Arizona is clearly set with Tate. I like Arizona to pull off the minor upset tonight.
