According to the latest oddsmakers, Georgia is the favorite on the road, as the Bulldogs are getting odds of -24.5 points against Tennessee. Vols unable to get on track
Tennessee is also coming off a bye week, but the Volunteers were soundly beaten by Florida two weeks ago, 34-3. The Vols are just 1-3 on the season, 0-1 in the SEC, 1-3 against the spread and 2-2 with the over/under total.
The Vols have an offense that has really been struggling this season. They are putting up just 355.2 yards and 26 points per game this year. Defensively, Tennessee is allowing 339.8 yards and 25.2 points per game. Jarret Guarantano is leading the offense with 753 passing yards and seven touchdowns, but the Vols are opting to go with freshman Brian Maurer for today’s game. Ty Chandler has rushed for 282 yards and two touchdowns to lead Tennessee on the ground. Jauan Jennings is the team’s leading receiver with 19 catches for 298 yards and four touchdowns.
Bulldogs rested heading into tonight
Georgia is coming off a bye week last week, but the Bulldogs picked up a 23-17 win over Notre Dame at home two weeks ago. Georgia is now 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the SEC, 2-2 against the spread and 3-1 with the under.
The Bulldogs are a defensive power, as they are giving up just 10 points and 262.5 yards per game, both of which rank in the top 10 nationally. Offensively, Georgia is putting up 509.2 points and 42.8 yards per game. Both of those stats rank in the top 15 nationally. Jake Fromm is leading the team this year with 788 passing yards and six touchdowns while D’Andre Swift is the leading rusher with 388 yards and three touchdowns. Dominick Blaylock is the team’s leading receiver with nine catches for 179 yards and two scores.
College Football Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Vols are 4-14 against the spread in their last 18 home games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 SEC games.
Georgia
Georgia has covered the spread in five straight conference games and in 20 of their last 27 road games.
Prediction:
Georgia has won two straight against the Vols, but Tennessee did cover the spread in last year’s 38-12 loss in Athens. Still, the last meeting in Knoxville was a 41-0 win for the Bulldogs. Georgia is just an impressive team on both sides of the ball and Tennessee is far from that. The Vols were soundly dominated by Florida, who I believe is a lesser team than the Bulldogs. Georgia’s defense is going to be able to lock up Tennessee, especially against a freshman QB, while the Georgia run game shouldn’t have a problem picking up scores. I can see another 34-3-type game against the Vols tonight.
