North Carolina Tar Heels Game Notes
North Carolina has added Western Carolina to its schedule, with the game to be played Friday, December 11. North Carolina’s game with Charlotte (scheduled for September 19) was canceled due to the 49ers’ roster being diminished due to COVID-19 testing/contact tracing protocols, opening up a slot on the schedule. Enter the Catamounts, who will make the trek to Chapel Hill for a Friday night affair in December. Western Carolina will not play its first game of the season until November 14 when it takes on Liberty. FCS competition has been pushed back to the spring, but many conferences at that level have given their programs the freedom to schedule a couple games in the fall.
Boston College Eagles Game Notes
Boston College redshirt sophomore QB Phil Jurkovec ran for two touchdowns and completed 26-of-36 passes for 210 yards with a touchdowns along with an interception in a 24-21 win over Texas State on Saturday. For the overwhelming majority of this contest, Jurkovec struggled to get the ball down the field. The 6-foot-5, 226-pound quarterback was able to come up big late, however, and after throwing a game-tying touchdown to Hunter Long with 1:11 left, the Eagles were able to get the ball back and march down for a Aaron Boumerhi game-winner from 36 yards out. Jurkovec continues to impress more as a runner than as a thrower — the same was true in his very brief time with Notre Dame — but the Eagles avoid an embarrassing loss and move to 2-0. Things will be much, much tougher next Saturday against UNC.
