VT at Duke

After reminding the nation why it was ranked so high in the preseason polls, No. 6 Virginia Tech looks to avoid a letdown Saturday at Noon, when it travels to Wallace Wade Stadium to face Duke.

The Hokies had the biggest win of week 4, when they defeated Miami 31-7 at home. Virginia Tech held the Hurricanes to 209 yards of offense while forcing two turnovers and picking up three sacks.  The Hokies defensive numbers aren’t leading the ACC, but that is more due to playing three ranked opponents in four games rather than poor performances. On offense, the Hokies have moved the ball well on the ground, as Ryan Williams has 492 yards with eight touchdowns to lead Virginia Tech. Williams ranks fifth in the nation in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns. Tyrod Taylor has thrown for only 542 yards in the four games, but has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 4-1.

The Blue Devils are 2-2 on the year with wins over Army and North Carolina Central while losing to Richmond and Kansas. A 49-14 win over N.C. Central was the last outing for the Blue Devils. Desmond Scott rushed for 100 yards and a score in the win while Thaddeus Lewis threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Lewis has thrown for 783 yards on the season while Austin Kelly has caught 19 passes for 256 yards. Defensively, Leon Wright has had two interceptions returned for touchdowns for the Blue Devils.

Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Virginia Tech 16.5-point road favorites over Duke on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 46.
