Penn State vs. Iowa Free Pick
In a clash of two defensive titans, don’t expect a lot of points when No. 17 Iowa and No. 22 Penn State collide in Week 5.
Oddsmakers from online sportsbook BroburySports.com have made Iowa a 7-point favorite against the Nittany Lions on Saturday. The over/under is set at 40.5. The game itself is tough to call, but we have a suggested pick for the over/under.
With both teams able to shutdown opposing offenses while also struggling on offense in their own right, we suggest a pick of the under. The point total isn’t high, but both teams have clear flaws.
For Penn State, it is simple, freshman Robert Bolden hasn’t proven he can make plays at quarterback against a good defense. Alabama held the Nittany Lions to just 3 points and Iowa may have an even better defense than the Tide.
Supporting our pick on the Iowa side is that the Hawkeyes struggled to run the ball early against Arizona as the Wildcats had the speed and size to stifle the Iowa offense. Penn State should have that same ability against Iowa in this game. Ricky Stanzi isn’t a bad player, but he isn’t a guy I would want to have to make plays for me either. Add to that that Iowa has depth issues at running back, and the under is an even more attractive pick.
If you want to pick the game, we do like Iowa as they seem to have the better overall team, but we feel most confident in the point total hitting 40 points or less.
