In State Rivalry?

It may be an in-state opponent, but there isn’t much of a rivalry taking place Saturday when No. 2 Texas hosts UTEP at 3:30PM ET from Texas Memorial Stadium.

The Longhorns are 3-0 with their most significant win coming last week over Texas Tech, 34-24. Colt McCoy struggled in the win throwing for 205 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the win. McCoy was apparently dealing with the flu, but the performance didn’t enhance his Heisman status. McCoy has thrown for 859 yards through three games with six touchdowns and four interceptions. Tre’ Newton and Vondrell McGee have led the rushing attack, but running for over 135 yards while Jordan Shipley has caught 26 passes for 314 yards. The Longhorns are leading the Big XII in points scored at 44 per-game and are also second in the conference in third-down conversions.

The Miners are 1-2 on the season with the lone win coming last week at New Mexico State. Donald Buckram rushed for 113 yards with two touchdowns in the win while the defense held the Aggies to 284 yards. Buckram has rushed for 252 yards on the season while quarterback Trevor Vittatoe has struggled to 602 yards on 56-of-102 passing with just one touchdown.
