Duke set for ACC opener
The Blue Devils opened the season with a loss to Alabama, but Duke has picked up wins over North Carolina A&T and Middle Tennessee in recent weeks. Duke is 2-1 overall, 2-1 against the spread and 2-1 with the over.
Duke has looked good defensively since that rough opener with the Crimson Tide. The Blue Devils are giving up 24.3 points and 366.7 yards per game on the season. Offensively, Duke is putting up 29.7 points and 413.7 yards per contest. Quarterback Quentin Harris has thrown for 679 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the offense while also rushing for 203 yards. Deon Jackson has rushed for 177 yards while Jalon Calhoun is the receiving leader with 153 yards on 15 catches with three touchdowns.
Hokies struggling, even in wins
Virginia Tech opened the season with a loss at Boston College, but followed that up with narrow wins over Old Dominion and Furman. Despite the wins, Tech is 0-3 against the spread and 2-1 with the under.
Normally a powerful defense, Tech hasn’t been quite as dominant this year. The Hokies are giving up 23 points and 329 yards per game this season. Offensively, Tech is putting up 27.7 points and 398.3 yards per game. Quarterback Ryan Willis is leading the team with 739 yards and seven touchdowns passing. Tayvion Robinson is the leading receiver with 165 yards and 14 receptions while Keshawn King is the team’s leading rusher with 175 yards and a touchdown. King had to leave Tech’s last game with a knee injury and he is questionable to play on Friday.
College Football Betting Trends
Duke
The Blue Devils are 5-1 with the over in their last six games following a cover. However, they are 12-4 with the under in their last 16 conference games.
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech has hit the over in four straight home games against a team with a winning road record, but 6-2 with the under in their last eight games in September.
Prediction:
The under has been the play in this series. These two have hit it in three straight meetings and seven of their last nine encounters. Though Tech’s defense isn’t what it use to be, the Duke offense isn’t a dominant force either. I would look for the Blue Devils to have some struggles on the road this week. Tech also isn’t an offense that should give Duke a lot of fits, especially if their leading rusher is unable to suit up.
