Bama remains dominant
Alabama went on the road to open SEC play last week, earning a 47-23 win at South Carolina. Despite the lofty win, the Tide didn’t cover the spread. Alabama is 3-0 on the season, 1-2 against the spread and 2-1 with the over.
The Crimson Tide have been dominant on both sides of the ball. The offense is putting up 50.3 points and 562 yards per game while the defense is giving up just 12 points and 308.3 yards per contest. Tua Tagovailoa is leading the team with 1,007 passing yards and 12 touchdowns while Jerry Jeudy has 24 catches for 308 yards and four scores. Najee Harris is the leading rusher with 156 yards and a score.
Southern Miss putting up points
The Southern Miss football team is coming off a 47-42 win at Troy last weekend to move to 2-1 on the season. The Golden Eagles are 2-1 against the spread while going 2-1 with the over through three games.
The Golden Eagles are having success on offense, as they are averaging 33.3 points and 453 yards per game this season. Defensively, Southern Miss is allowing 30 points and 377 yards per contest. Jack Abraham is leading the Southern Miss offense with 990 yards and five touchdowns, but he also has three interceptions. Three different receivers have over 200 yards for the Eagles this year. Jordan Mitchell is leading the team with 16 catches for 295 yards and two touchdowns. D.Q. Thomas is leading the defense with 24 tackles and two sacks.
College Football Betting Trends
Alabama
Alabama is just 1-6 against the spread in its last seven against Conference USA opponents and 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games.
Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games in September and 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record.
Prediction:
Southern Miss got a little SEC experience two weeks ago in a 38-15 loss at Mississippi State. The Golden Eagles aren’t the worst non-Power 5 program, so I think they can manage to make a few plays here and there. Alabama has been impressive, but the Crimson Tide aren’t covering spreads right now. The Tide usually go big in the first half and then slow things down in the second half. Nick Saban is worried about point spreads, just winning and staying healthy.
