Alabama opened the season with a win over a top 10 opponent and now, the No. 4 Crimson Tide has one final tune up prior to SEC play when they host North Texas on Saturday at 12:20PM ET from Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Alabama defeated another Sun Belt Conference team last weekend, when it easily got past Florida International 40-14.
Alabama outgained 516-214 in the victory, and held the Golden Panthers to 1 yard rushing. Greg McElroy threw for 241 yards on 18-of-24 passing with a touchdown. Trent Richardson rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, as the Crimson Tide tallied 275 yards rushing. Mike McCoy caught five passes for 100 yards with a touchdown as well. Defensively,
Alabama totaled five sacks with one interception.
North Texas use to be a power in the Sun Belt, getting as high as a 9-4 record in 2003, but in the last two seasons, the Mean Green haven’t won more than two games in a single season. This season, under third-year coach Mike Dodge, North Texas won the season opener at
BallState 20-10, but lost last week at home against
Ohio, 31-30 in double overtime. The Mean Green only allowed 232 yards of offense to the Bobcats, but turned the ball over four times and committed nine penalties. Riley Dodge threw for 117 yards in the loss while Cam Montgomery rushed for 88 yards.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made
Alabama 38.5-point home favorites over
North Texas on Saturday afternoon. The over/under total for this game has been established at 52.5.
