Latest on Mississippi State…
Dan Mullen had high praise for quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, suggesting that the sophomore is “a little more explosive with the ball in his hand than Dak [Prescott].” The 6-foot-5, 223-pound signal-caller finished with 178 passing yards with two touchdowns and one interception while also rushing for 195 yards on 11.5 YPC against South Carolina last weekend. Fitzgerald’s 10.8 yards-per-carry average leads the SEC this season.
Latest on LSU…
The Brandon Harris experiment is officially over for now. Les Miles said that Purdue senior transfer Danny Etling will start under center for the Tigers tonight against Mississippi State. “I think Danny can handle the place and the stage and playing in a televised game in Tiger Stadium,” said Miles. Etling completed 6-of-14 passes for 100 yards with one touchdown and an interception in last week’s win over Jacksonville State.

OUR PREDICTION: The Bulldogs are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played in September and have been a great bet in conference play, going 15-6 ATS in their last 21 contests versus SEC competition. The Tigers, meanwhile, have failed to cover in five of their last seven games overall and are just 1-4 ATS in thier last five games in September. Until LSU proves that it can move the ball against quality competition, it doesn’t make sense to lay nearly two touchdowns with the Tigers, who were supposed to be national title contenders. Even though Mississippi State lost to South Alabama in its opener, the Bulldogs are dangerous because of Fitzgerald and should hang tough tonight.
