Last Saturday was not a good day for No. 13
Oklahoma. This weekend should go a lot smoother for the Sooners.
After losing Heisman winner Sam Bradford at quarterback for 2-4 weeks with a shoulder injury, the Sooners dropped a 14-13 decision to BYU to postpone any preseason national title hopes. On Saturday,
Oklahoma looks to get back on the right track when it hosts
IdahoState at 7PM ET from
Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Bradford led the Sooners to a 7-0 lead early on against the Cougars, but was injured in the second quarter, making the way for Landry Jones to take over. Jones finished with just 51 yards through the air on 6-of-12 passing. The Sooners as a team were held to 265 yards of offense with 118 yards rushing. DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown each had 58 yards rushing in the loss behind an inexperienced offensive line that struggled to open up holes. On defense,
Oklahoma did force four turnovers and had four sacks, but the lack of offensive support left the Sooners’ D on the field for most of the second half.
The Idaho State Bengals lost 50-3 in their opener at
ArizonaState. IdahoState managed just 37 yards of total offense with -5 yards rushing as a team. The Bengals turned the ball over five times in the loss and were sacked on two occasions. The highlight of the loss was a 55-yard field goal by kicker Jarrett Huk. Defensively, the Bengals allowed the Sun Devils to acquire 407 yards of offense.
