The Bears rolled Maryland 52-13 in the opener and now face a much lesser opponent this week in Eastern Washington. The Bears are 7-0 all-time against the Big Sky Conference. Jahvid Best rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 carries last week for an average of 13.7 yards per-carry. The Bears had 542 yards of total offense in the win, with quarterback Kevin Riley throwing for four touchdowns on 17-of-26 passing for 298 yards. The Cal defense also held Maryland to 303 yards of total offense with two turnovers and six sacks.

Eastern Washington comes into its first meeting ever with California after a 35-14 win over Western Oregon. Matt Nichols threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the win while running back Taiwan Jones had 122 yards rushing with an 87-yard touchdown run. The Eagles last meeting with a top 25 team was a 49-24 loss to Texas Tech last season. Despite the lopsided loss, Nichols did throw for 335 yards and a touchdown in the effort.
