Penn State runs up the score
The Penn State football team couldn’t be stopped on Saturday, as the Nittany Lions picked up a 79-7 win over Idaho at home. Penn State easily covered the 42-point spread while going over the 58.5-point total.
Penn State was close to flawless in the victory, putting up 673 yards of offense while holding Idaho to just 141 total yards. Sean Clifford looked solid in his first start under center, throwing for 280 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 57 yards. KJ Hamler caught four passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns to lead the receivers while Devyn Ford was the leading rusher with 107 yards and a touchdown on just six carries. Yetur Gross-Matos led the defense with 2.5 sacks.
Buffalo wins, doesn’t cover
Buffalo didn’t have much of a challenge in its season opener, earning a 38-10 win over Robert Morris. The Bulls didn’t manage to cover the 41.5-point spread in the win, while also going under the 61.5-point total.
The Bulls only put up 354 yards of total offense in the victory while dominating on defense by holding Robert Morris to 240 yards. Buffalo only threw 10 passes in the win as Matt Myers was 5 of 10 passing for 69 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 47 yards and a score. Jaret Patterson was the leading rusher with 90 yards and a touchdown while Kevin Marks added 75 rushing yards.
College Football Betting Trends
Penn State
The Nittany Lions are 22-5-1 ATS in their last 28 games following a win and 4-0 ATS in their last four games in September.
Buffalo
The Bulls have covered the spread in six straight against Big Ten opponents and in eight of their last 10 games in September.
Prediction:
While it would be hard to imagine Penn State putting up 79 points again this week, last week was a pretty clear indication that the Nittany Lions are going to go ahead and run up the score if given the opportunity. Buffalo is far from the team it was with Khalil Mack, so I am not sure the Bulls can do much defensively to stop PSU and its offense won’t be able to keep pace with the Nittany Lions. Penn State is clearly in “send a message” mode, so I will take PSU minus the points.
