Southern Miss vs. Nebraska Odds

LINCOLN, NE (The Spread) – No. 22 Nebraska hopes for a stronger performance this week when it hosts Southern Miss at 6PM ET on the Big Ten Network this Saturday.

Nebraska got a scare in its opener, only beating Wyoming, 37-34. The Cornhuskers hit the over in the game, but failed to cover the 31-point spread. Southern Miss suffered a 22-15 loss to Texas State. The Eagles failed to cover the spread in the loss and hit the under. Nebraska has won three of its last four against Southern Miss.

Trends show that Nebraska is 6-2-1 against the spread in its last 9 home games while Southern Miss is 0-4 ATS in its last 4 games against Big Ten opponents and 1-9-1 ATS in its last 11 games on fieldturf.

According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Nebraska is the favorite in this game, as the Cornhuskers have odds of -28 points against Southern Miss on Saturday. The spread dropped to 26.5 points during the week before climbing back up to 28. The over/under total hasn’t changed since opening at 59.5 points.

Nebraska was left with more questions than answers after its season opener. The Cornhuskers gave up 602 total yards to the Wyoming offense, including 383 passing yards. The Cornhuskers had a good offense, racking up 530 total yards and 375 rushing yards. Quarterback Taylor Martinez threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 80 yards. Running backs Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross each rushed for over 100 yards as well.

Southern Miss seemed like it had a win going its way, as it out-gained Texas State 400-215 last weekend, but the Golden Eagles committed six turnovers, including four fumbles lost in the game. Allan Bridgford ended up throwing for 377 yards on 28 of 53 passing, but the quarterback had two interceptions to just one touchdown. The issue for the offense was the running game, which totaled just 23 yards.

In terms of Injuries, Nebraska offensive lineman Jake Cotton is questionable with an undisclosed injury. Southern Miss has no injuries to report.
