Tebow has either won a national championship or a Heisman Trophy in each of his three seasons with the Gators and this year, Florida enters the 2009 season ranked first in the country. The Gators bring back seven starters on offense, led by Tebow, who tallied 2,746 passing yards with 30 touchdowns and 673 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns in 2008. Tebow will be without top threat Percy Harvin this season, but brings back three players that rushed for over 400 yards last season. On defense, Florida brings back its entire unit, which was fifth in the nation in scoring at 12.9 points allowed per-game in 2008. The defense will be led by senior linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was an All-American in 2008 with 93 tackles and four interceptions. Urban Meyer is in his fifth season with the Gators, having already won two national titles, including the 2008 championship with a 13-1 record. Meyer is 44-9 in his career with Florida.

Charleston Southern is coming off a 7-5 year in 2008 as part of the Football Championship Subdivision. The Buccaneers have never faced the Gators, but are 0-16 against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. Charleston Southern will be relying on junior quarterback A.J. Toscano to lead the way in 2009 after redshirting last season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com have not released a point-spread for Saturday’s game.
