(The Spread) – Can a new face for Florida get the Gators back to national championship success this season?
After a successful run with Urban Meyer for six seasons that saw two national championships, he stepped down as head coach and Will Muschamp is taking over in his first head coaching gig. This season, Florida has 10 starters back from a team that went 8-5 last season.
According to oddsmakers Florida has 14/1 odds to win the 2012 BCS National Championship and 6/1 odds to win the SEC. The Gators are also listed with 5/4 odds to win the SEC East and oddsmakers have given them an over/under win total of 7.5.

Florida was not the offensive power in 2010 that many had grown accustomed to. The Gators averaged just 351 yards per game and only 184 passing yards. This season, John Brantley is back for his senior season after throwing for 2,061 yards and nine touchdowns with 10 interceptions last year. Brantley has been given 60/1 odds of winning the Heisman Trophy. On defense, Florida loses a number of key pieces, but brings back three starters in its back seven. Leading the unit will be defensive tackle, Jaye Howard, who had nine tackles for loss in 2010.
As a program, Florida owns three national championships and eight conference titles. The Gators last won both in 2008. The Gators have a light non-conference schedule this season but will make road trips to LSU and South Carolina in conference play. Florida hosts Alabama and Florida State while facing Georgia in Jacksonville.
Florida was 7-6 against the spread last season, which was its fourth straight season of having a winning record against the spread. The Gators also hit the over in 7 of 13 lined games, splitting the over/under in 8 home games on the year.
