(TheSpread) – The Oklahoma State football program has emerged as a national power over the last three season. Will the Cowboys finally make a leap into the national title picture in 2013?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Oklahoma State has been given 33/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Cowboys have also been given odds of +265 to win the Big 12 Conference and their over/under for wins this season has been set at 9.5.

Mike Gundy is in his ninth season with Oklahoma State and the Cowboys are coming off their fifth straight season with at least eight wins, including two double-digit win seasons in 2010 and 2011. The Cowboys were 8-5 a year ago and return 15 starters from the 2012 squad.

Producing offense hasn’t been a problem for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have averaged over 44 points per game the last three seasons. They also have totaled over 500 yards per game each of the last three years. This year’s team has a choice to make at quarterback, as Clint Chelf and J.W. Walsh each saw significant time last season and combined for over 3,100 yards and 28 touchdowns. Either quarterback has receiver Josh Stewart to throw to. Stewart caught 101 passes for 1,210 yards and seven scores in 2012. The Cowboys will need to replace their running back, but have three starters back on the offensive line, which should help the team keep its offensive prowess.

On defense, Oklahoma State struggled in 2012, allowing 28.2 points and 422 yards per game. The Cowboys tend to rely on the offense to out-score opponents, but they would still like to see improvements on this end, especially with seven starters back. The passing numbers should improve from 280 yards allowed per game, as the team has three starters returning in the secondary and two of the three linebacker positions.

When it comes to wins, Oklahoma State could struggle to get to 10 due to the Big 12 schedule. The Cowboys travel to West Virginia, Texas Tech and Texas this year while hosting the likes of Kansas State, TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma. A key for 10 wins will be the season opener against Mississippi State in Houston. That game is a must-win for the Cowboys.
