TCU 2013 Season Odds
(TheSpread) – The TCU Horned Frogs got a rude awakening to BCS play with the jump to the Big 12 last season. Will TCU be able to rebound in 2013?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, TCU has been given 66/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Horned Frogs have also been given odds of +360 to win the Big 12 Conference title. TCU’s over/under for wins in 2013 have been set at 8.
Andersen is making the jump from Utah State to the Horned Frogs as he takes over for Gary Patterson enters his 13th season with TCU in 2013, but the Horned Frogs are in just their second year as part of the Big 12. The 2012 season saw the Horned Frogs go 7-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play. It was TCU’s worst season since 2004. This year’s squad brings back a total of 18 starters, giving the Horned Frogs some hope for a breakout year with the big boys.
The TCU offense has seven starters back, led by quarterbacks Casey Pachall and Trevone Boykin, who each had time under center in 2012. Pachall was the starter, but off-the-field issues sent him away from the program midseason. Boykin took over and performed well. The two combined for over 3,000 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. There will be good protection for either quarterback, as TCU returns both tackles and its center. The key is developing new receiving targets, as the team lost two of their top three receivers from 2012.
Defensively, TCU held opponents to 22.6 points and 324 yards per game, but those numbers were greater than what the Horned Frogs were used to during their days in the Mountain West Conference. The defense has nine starters back, led by sophomore end Devonte Fields, who had 10 sacks in 2012. The defense returns all starters in the secondary as well, including senior cornerback Jason Verrett, who was an All-American with six interceptions last year.
With no Big 12 Championship Game, TCU has 12 regular season contests and a bowl game to get to eight wins. The Horned Frogs start the year with a game against LSU at Cowboys Stadium, which will be a big test right off the bat. Road trips to Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Kansas State also await TCU in conference play, while the Horned Frogs get to host the likes of Texas, West Virginia and Baylor.
