According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Wisconsin has been given 75/1 odds to win the 2014 BCS National Championship. The Badgers have also been given odds of +900 to win the Big Ten Conference and a money line of +475 to win the Big Ten Leaders Division. Wisconsin’s over/under for wins in 2013 have been set at 9.

Andersen is making the jump from Utah State to the Badgers as he takes over for Bret Bielema, who made a surprising jump to Arkansas after winning back-to-back Big Ten Championships. This season, Andersen takes over a team that returns 16 starters.

On offense, Wisconsin hopes to continue to be a force on the ground. The Badgers have averaged over 200 rushing yards per game the last six seasons, but lose Montee Ball from the backfield. The Badgers still have James White and Melvin Gordon to turn to. The two combined for over 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. Quarterback Joel Stave is back as well, but he struggled during the year, throwing for just 1,104 yards and six touchdowns. Stave will have his top target, receiver Jared Abbrederis, back this season. The senior caught 49 passes for 837 yards and five touchdowns in 2012.

Defensively, Wisconsin was solid in 2012, holding opponents to 19.1 points and 323 yards per game. This year’s team has six starters back, with five coming in the front seven. Linebacker Chris Borland had 104 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2012. He will be back to lead the defense. The concern for Wisconsin will be in the secondary, as the Badgers have to replace three strong starters. Look for Wisconsin’s passing numbers of 194 yards per game allowed in 2012 to go up this season.

When it comes to the schedule, Wisconsin has some challenging games. The Badgers have a pair of cake games to start the year before heading to Arizona State in week three. From there, the Badgers head to Ohio State a few weeks later and also have tough games at home against Northwestern, BYU and Penn State. Wisconsin went just 8-6 last season, but were benefited by NCAA sanctions to the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes. This year’s team appears worse on paper than the 2012 squad.
