According to oddsmakers from Bodog, Auburn has been given 70/1 odds to win the BCS National Championship this season. The Tigers are also a 50/1 long shot to win the SEC Championship and they have 10/1 odds to win the SEC West. Their over/under win total odds have been set at 6.5.
Auburn won its second national championship in program history last year by going 14-0 behind the Heisman Trophy winning efforts of Cam Newton. Newton did it all for the Tigers on offense and then a stout defensive line, led by Nick Fairley at DT, helped Gene Chizik earn his first national championship.
This season, Auburn has just six starters back, led by running back Michael Dyer, who rushed for 1,093 yards and five touchdowns in 2010. Dyer will have four new starters on the offensive line and a new quarterback to work with, but he still has 85/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Defensively, the Tigers lose six of their seven leading tacklers.
Auburn has managed to win at least seven games in nine of the last 10 seasons, including both seasons under Chizik. The Tigers will have non-conference games against Utah State, Samford and Florida Atlantic while heading to Clemson. Conference games include road trips to Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU, and Georgia while the Tigers get to hose Florida and Alabama.
